Eye Surgery for Bowen
January 2024-  Bowen needs surgery to correct a strabismus.  The hope is to schedule it at the end of January.  We are grateful Bowen is being given a chance for improved sight.

March UPDATE-  Bowen had his eye surgery, which went really well.  His eye healed quickly following surgery.
2023 Children Served
Ophthalmologist Evaluation
September 2023- Two-year-old Derrick was previously diagnosed with a congenital cataract and retinal detachment.  This month he was taken to a large eye hospital in Shanghai for evaluation.  At present his ophthalmologist said that he is too young for surgery and no intervention is required at the moment.  Thankfully, some improvement had been noted in his sight.
Second Orthopedic (Hip) Surgery
September 2023- Seven-year-old Elis had his first of two surgeries in March to address his dislocated hip joints.                                             This month our brave boy underwent the second surgery.  The surgery went well, and Elis is now receiving several months of physical therapy with the goal of one day walking independently.
Heart Surgery
July 2023- We are pleased to report that Jayson's surgery to repair a VSD was successful.  He has been discharged back to his foster home for continued recovery.
Skin Grafting
July 2023- Grady is recovering nicely from having skin grafts to his face.  The doctors were pleased with how well the surgery went.
Eye Surgery for Elena
May 2023- Sweet Elena needs surgery to correct a strabismus.   Currently, Elena is wearing glasses to help her sight, but further treatment is now needed.  Hope's Heart is grateful for the funding available to meet this need.  Surgery went well and Elena was able to be discharged back to the healing home.
Gabriel- Neurological Testing
April 2023- Gabriel was admitted this month to the hospital for a neurological workup to investigate the cause of his seizures.  He was diagnosed with epilepsy and has started on medication for this.
Emergency Medical Care
April 2023- Seven-year-old Kellen was hospitalized after showing signs of breathing distress.  Following medical testing, he was diagnosed with malnutrition and anemia alongside a lung infection.  Kellen received pneumonia care.  A few days later, showing improvement in his breathing and being more at ease overall, he was discharged back to the orphanage.
Heart Surgery
March 2023- Surgery is being planned to repair a defect in 3 1/2 year old Mason's heart.  We are grateful that Mason is strong and healthy enough to undergo this surgery.  We will keep you posted as surgery is scheduled and performed.

April UPDATE-  Mason's heart catheterization that was to be part of his surgery revealed that the hole in his heart was very small.  The doctors think the tiny hole might still close on its own.  The doctors decided to not proceed with the PDA repair.
First Orthopedic Surgery
March 2023- Seven-year-old Elis' dislocated hip joints are being address in a couple surgeries.  This month, Elis underwent the first surgery with the expectation of one day being able to walk independently.  Surgery will be followed with physical therapy.
Stephen's Surgery
February 2023- Stephen has been dealing with a urological problem for quite some time.    Hospitalization, including an evaluation and surgery, has hopefully helped to improve the issue. It is expected that Stephen will have a follow up appointment in a few months to re-evaluate.  For now, we're grateful for the level of relief that he has.
Therapy for Katrina
January 2023- Katrina's ophthalmologist recommended eye therapy following her recent eye surgery.  Hope's Heart is grateful for the opportunity to fund her ongoing therapy.
